These Meatball Sub Sandwiches are so delicious! The juicy meatballs are served in marinara sauce and are topped with melted cheese. They are the perfect sandwich for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded Fontina cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Provolone cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Steps

  1. Make the meatballs. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Form the mixture into 12 equal-sized meatballs using your hands or an ice cream scoop.
  2. Bake the meatballs. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until fully cooked and golden brown.
  3. Heat the marinara sauce. While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the sauce and simmer for 5–10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Assemble the sandwiches. Preheat the broiler. Split the hoagie rolls and place them on a baking sheet. Spoon three meatballs and some sauce into each roll. Top with shredded Fontina and Provolone cheese.
  5. Broil the sandwiches. Place the sandwiches under the broiler for 2–3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning.
  6. Serve. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve hot. Enjoy!
